About us

Earts is a research and consulting organization established in 2018. Earts stands for Environment, arts, resilience, and sustainability. We are an independent research organization dedicated to contributing to the resilience of sustainable development. Our work is focused on six main areas: environmental pollution, safety and health management, forests and wetlands conservation, clean and renewable energy, and disaster risk reduction/adaptation.

We ensure that cutting-edge expertise is deployed; from technological innovation, practical approach, socio-ecological system, policy instruments, and governance strategy. It provides technical advice to programs, coordinating communities of practice, providing quality assurance, and lead cross-cutting agenda-setting research that bolsters efforts across global challenges. We turn big ideas into action at the nexus of green growth and human well-being.

Main topics
We focus on six urgent global challenges:
  1. Environmental pollution: Improve quality of life by developing and scaling environmentally, socially and economically sustainable cleaner production and life cycle.
  2. Safety and health management: Developing bioprocess technology, health, and safety environment in industries
  3. Clean and renewable energy: Drive the scale-up of clean, affordable, and decentralized energy systems to support low-carbon development.
  4. Food and agriculture: Ensure the food and agriculture systems reduce their impact on the environment, drive economic opportunity and food security.
  5. Forests and wetlands conservation: Alleviate poverty, enhance food security, conserve biodiversity and mitigate climate change by reducing forest and wetlands loss and restoring productivity to degraded, deforested lands.
  6. Disaster risk reduction and adaptation: Protect communities and natural ecosystems from damage caused by climate change impact, reducing vulnerability, and increasing community resilience to disasters.

Approach

In working to achieve global change at scale, we apply a twofold approach:

analyze IT

We start with the data. We conduct independent, unbiased research to analyze relationships and design solutions, and communicate our findings in a compelling manner.

CHANGE IT

We work with leaders of cities, companies, and countries to achieve change, testing our ideas in complex real-world situations. We set clear objectives and hold ourselves accountable.

Our research findings are accessible to decision-makers, businesses, and civil society: as our own open-access material, in leading academic journals, and repackaged for effective decision support.
Values
  • Trusted: decision-makers, private sectors and the academic community recognize us as an independent and non-partisan institute.
  • Credible: our research is objective and supported by rigorous peer review.
  • Relevant: our work makes connections across the natural, physical and social sciences, allowing us to take new angles and offer a robust, insightful (policy) recommendations.

Factors to consider in choosing the ‘right’ journal/publisher

Every researcher/author may have different ways to define the right journal/book series or publisher for publishing their research.  For those who want their research to have a high impact, the level of the journal (based on its impact factor or ranking) can be an important factor. For those who are in a hurry in publishing their research, they must consider the speed of the publication process of the journal/book series.  For those who have a budget limitation and want to have gold open access feature-to increase the readability and outreach of the article, it is important to know the cost for the gold open access feature.  Or for those who want to get a prize for their article, some journals provide an award for the best article. For those who want to consider all the above-mentioned factors, the reputation of the publisher may be relevant for you. For those who work in an international think tank/NGO, their publishing process is actually also robust...

Empowering purun group for peatland restoration in South Sumatra

Background Purun is a native species on peatland in South Sumatra. In Peatland Hydrological Unit (PHU) Burnai-Sibumbung (Pedamaran village), Sugihan-Lumpur (Meranjak, Pangkalan Lampam, Pampangan village) and Sibumbung-Talangrimba (Tanjung Lubuk village) in the OKI regency, South Sumatra,  Purun  has been utilized by communities to produce woven mats and other household goods. This means that  purun  is a potential commodity for the sustainable livelihood on peatland. In those villages, there have been about 30 community groups for  purun . They are divided into two types of group: (1) Farmer groups and (2) Weaver groups. Farmer groups consist of farmers who collect  purun  on peatlands. This group sells  purun  to the weaver group to be woven into mats and other products such as slippers and bags. Currently, the purun group are still facing issues with funding for facilities to support their livelihood activities and market...
